The Funeral

This morning is my dad's funeral. Afterwards, my stepmother will be burying him in Wilmington. This will be the first time I can remember that she has done something to him that I strongly disapprove of. Dad lived his whole life in Blanchester. He was mayor. He ran his business there, and helped many others to start theirs there as well. He was always working to patronize local businesses. Yesterday about 500 people came to his visitation. The vast majority were from Blanchester. I don't think he would want to be taken away from this town that he worked his whole life to support.

The funeral is over and now I understand now why Wilma wanted to bury dad in Wilmington. The grave site is in the same plot as Angie, my step sister, and Robbie, my step brother. Dad and Angie and Robbie were her family. Regardless of what dad was to Blanchester, he was Wilma's husband.

A Long, Long Day

Today was the visitation for dad. There were so many people that I didn't know. Dad was a very outgoing man. He made friends easily,  and had no enemies.  He was generous with his time and money. I miss him.
It was an open coffin viewing. He smelled like chemicals. I hope that does not become how I remember him.

Getting Ready to Travel

My father lived 2/3 of the way across the country from here, so Anita and I have been scrambling around today getting plane tickets, arranging boarding.  I realized that I didn't have a suit that fits, so I had to go out and buy one of those.

Bread Talk

The 1 pound loaf is small for this bread machine, and occasionally the machine fails to mix it, shoving the ingredients against the side instead.  Last night I made a 1-1/2 pound loaf to see how it would come out.  It is nice, and Anita loves it.

Devastating News

Last night my father died of an apparent heart attack.  I'm still quite numb.  He and I only communicated rarely, but I always knew he was there.  Now he is not.

I completely lost track of what I ate today.  At night though, I started eating Snapea Crisps and could not stop.  I think I ate  about 1/2 of a 20oz bag.
